Movement Director and Choreographer

fernanda_lippi_zikziraFernanda Lippi, founder of Zikzira Physical Theatre, has produced critically acclaimed work for film, stage and site-specific venues. Interested in innovation and exploring the potential of movement vocabulary, she has established an inimitable, exciting style. Fernanda has collaborated with filmmakers and theatre companies.

Her first feature film ‘As Cinzas de Deus’ (Ashes of God), shot in Brazil, was selected for high-profile film festivals around the world and elected Critic’s Choice in Time Out (“Stupendous”), a first for a dance film, when released in the UK, and exhibited, amongst others, at The Barbican (“Devastatingly beautiful”).

Fernanda Lippi's full-length performance ‘Verissimilitude’ (“Exemplary choreography”) was performed to packed audiences at The Riverside Studios and other established venues in Europe and Brazil.

In 2015, her second feature film, Sea without Shore, premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival and was screened in selected cinemas across the UK and beyond. Also 2015, together with Javier de Frutos and Paul Roberts, Fernanda was invited by BalletBoyz to co-choreograph ‘Kama Sutra’, a prime-time production for Sky Arts.

In 2016, Marcus Waterloo’ s “We have Bled” which she choreographed and also performs in, premiered at Frame Film festival, London.



Andre Semenza
Artistic Director and Dramaturge

Andre Semenza Andre Semenza, co-founder of Zikzira Physical Theatre and founder of film production and distribution company Maverick Motion (UK and Brazil), has produced and directed a series of critically acclaimed films and live productions. In 2003 he released the pioneering As Cinzas de Deus. The film, shot by long-term collaborator, Director of Photography Marcus Waterloo, features a musical journey created by arguably France’s premier music producer, Kid Loco, and established a long-term collaboration with sound designer Glenn Freemantle (Oscar winner for ‘Gravity’) and Pinewood Studios.

He directed documentaries such as The Merging of Dance and Cinema: The Process. As Artistic Director and Dramaturge of Zikzira, Andre has directed the company’s cutting-edge, site-specific productions such as the multiple award-winning, full-length pieces Verissimilitude and Eu vos liberto; The Last Word is the Penultimate, a high-profile urban intervention project, was co-directed with Teatro da Vertigem and Lot, and the solo performance The smooth wax of ingenuous souls.

Andre has published a chapter in Akropolis Libri on Zikzira’s working methodology. With Fernanda Lippi, as joint curator, he is in charge of cultural hub Zikzira Action Space. In 2015 he premiered his second feature film Sea without Shore in the UK, exhibited at The Barbican, ICA, Regent Street Cinema amongst others ("A lyrical and entrancing meditation on loss. Surrender to its spell" The Guardian). In 2016, the film was distributed through Itaú Espaço de Cinema in Brazil, the country’s largest art house cinema chains.
